Tech & Craft 4

In Web design lessons on May 5, 2008 at 5:35 pm

This weeks web lesson was more successful in getting me to take in information than the previous ones. Although we had some technical difficulties, this meant that we were able to work through the lesson slowly and we had more time to take in the information, which was good. Even though I have used Dreamweaver before, I think this type of lesson would be more useful every week, i.e., not having so much information to take in, and maybe having hand outs for the more complicated things so that we can refer back to them later on? Having examples on Moodle each week is definately a good thing and they are handy to refer to, so maybe a step by step guide to what we’ve been doing each week could be put up on moodle so those that want it can print it off and keep it, but if you don’t need it you don’t end up with a massive pile of waste paper.

I’m glad our websites are starting to take shape now and I think I know the sort of direction I want to go in with mine, although I’m guessing it will be completely different to what I end up finally doing!

Web Lesson 3

In Web design lessons on April 23, 2008 at 6:49 pm

Today’s lesson was all the better for having a break as I found that I was able to concentrate a lot more. We learnt about schemmatic diagrams and how to show the structure of a website, and also about bitmapped graphics and what works well on the Internet and what doesn’t. This is especially useful for when we have to build our own websites as if the images don’t look good then having the content there is pointless.

Web design lesson 2

In today’s lesson we were learning how bitmap graphics work and what needs to be done before they are ready to be uploaded onto a website.

Overall the lesson was interesting as it was good to know how to stop logos pixellating on screen and how you go about doing this on illustrator and photoshop. However, there were quite a few steps to remember on the photoshop side so hopefully I will remember how to do it when it comes to creating my own graphics!

Looking at other portfolio websites helped us to grasp what is an effective way to display your work and what doesn’t work at all. Looking at the examples it was clear that those that worked best were simplified and were easy to navigate around. I will definitely bear this in mind when deciding on the structure of my own website. I like this website in particular, not only for how the work is displayed, but how the content is immediatey shown to the user upon arrival…www.ericbean.com
